“I was really surprised to see that in the middle of the city there are so many alternative options to the established economic and politique system.
N"ormally when I hear about ecology I feel either guilty because I am a consumer who contributes also to this system or helpless because I feel I can do nothing to stop this. When I saw how people handle to live in respectful or sustainable way, I felt really relieved and confident.

Some Pointers
Before you start a tour, it’s maybe good to know some few things :
- Berlin is a great city for bicycle as it is very flat BUT… there are a lot of cobblestones. Although we choose a route to avoid them as much as possible, we will ride on them sometimes, which is not so confortable!
- There are no bicycle paths everywhere.
- There is a lot of broken glas on the ground. Watch out for your tires!
Why tour by bike?
Berlin is knowns as an innovative and alternative city in its ecological meanings. Indeed, many community groups, many organisations, many public initiatives, many private habits or businesses have chosen to go in the direction of a sustainable development.
We want to show you those sustainable projects. This is why Grass Routes, a non-profit organisation that focuses on sustainabilty and creativity, has developed the Green City Tour in Berlin! Join it!
About Green City Tour
The “Green City Tour” is a guided tour in Berlin, by bicycle and in English, that is focusing on initiatives towards sustainability.
We’ll cycle a route which takes you by buildings with ecological installation, sustainable clothing stores, an intercultural market, alternative housing communities, organic restaurants and shops, an urban farm, a do-it-yourself workshop. Issues like transport and urban activism will also be talked about.
